Who I am

I’m Fleur (female). I’m a qualified EFL teacher with 15 years’ experience teaching English as a foreign language in various settings, including public schools, language schools and privately. I’ve worked both in London and abroad. I especially have a lot of experience with Korean, Chinese, French, Spanish and Italian students, but I am, of course, able (and more than willing!) to teach all nationalities. I’m a native speaker born in the UK and speak standard unaccented English, also known as received pronunciation (RP).

I’m widely travelled and really enjoy meeting people from all over the world, learning about their country and culture, and telling them about mine. I’ve learnt a lot from my students over the years – and obviously hope they feel the same! I love teaching and get a lot of satisfaction from helping students to achieve not only their language goals, but their wider goals in life, whether it’s to get a new job, get into university, make new friends, feel more confident, etc. I think that I’m very supportive and a good resource to my students generally. I’m always signposting them and helping them solve problems if necessary, to make sure that they get what they want out of their time in London.

I find it easy to talk to different kinds of people of all ages and can quickly make students feel at ease with me. I try to make lessons as fun and interesting as possible (and effective of course!), and I think my students enjoy them. I think this is really important. After all, there’s nothing worse than a very serious or boring lesson after a long day at work or school. You may want to check out my testimonials and see what some of my students have to say about me.

Contacting me

You may already have a clear idea of what you’re looking for, but you may want to have a look at the services I offer anyway. These include conversation lessons; tailored courses for short stays in London; General English; Business English; preparation for a wide range of exams; support for students, jobseekers and others; and proofreading/copywriting. Don’t be put off if what you’re looking for isn’t listed; get in touch anyway and I’ll do my best to help you.

When you contact me via the contact form, I’ll obviously need your name and email address to be able to reply to you. If you want to give me your telephone number, that’s great, but it’s not essential at this stage. Beyond that, try to give me as much information as possible about yourself and what you’re looking to get out of the lessons.

It would be helpful to know where you’re from, how long you’ve been in London (assuming that you are) and what you’re doing at the moment in terms of work/studies. Next, tell me a bit about your English – how long you’ve been learning, what you think you’re good at, what you think you need to improve, etc. Don’t worry if you don’t know what level you’re at, as we can easily work that out together. Also tell me if you have any particular aspirations. Finally, let me know your availability.

Most people enjoy the personal attention they get from private lessons and the fact that they tend to progress more quickly, but it can also be fun to share the lessons with someone else, so if there’re two or more of you and you’re more or less at the same level, that’s absolutely fine.

If you’re not based in London and are interested in online lessons, let me know where in the world you are. You may also want to check the time difference between us. Proofreading/copywriting can usually just be done by email.

What happens next

After you contact me, we’ll probably exchange a few messages, just to answer any questions and fill in any gaps. We may arrange to speak on the phone, video call or meet in person for a quick chat, or you may decide to go ahead and book a first lesson straightaway. Either way, I can quickly determine your level and make an initial needs assessment, and we can agree on how to proceed. This plan will likely change as we go on, as we discover more about your interests and motivations.

I’m currently only meeting students at my preferred location at King’s Cross, or lessons can be online. I’ll confirm my fees with you before any service is offered and also give you payment details. My rates are typically £35 for a 90-minute lesson and proofreading starts from £15 per 1,000 words. There is, of course, no obligation to proceed or continue at any time.

Please do read my Terms of Service and ensure you’re satisfied with all the terms and conditions. If you have any questions at all, just let me know.

I’m confident you’ll enjoy your lessons with me and get a lot out of them. I look forward to hearing from you and getting you started.
